Election Inquiry (Day 2)

Today we continued to create our presentations to share with the class.  This is our CREATING part of our Inquiry process.

Each 'party'  had to remember to include a large heading to 'capture ' the
                               voters attention.
They also had to include reasons to convince the voters that their
                                ideas were the best.

They wrote their reasons on different shapes and colours of paper.
Each Party shared their presentation.
This is called The COMMUNICATIONS part of our Inquiry.
After each party had shared their presentation we had to do our voting
                                                                  at the voting station.
Each child could only vote once and
they could not vote for their own party.
                                                           There were 12 parties.
There was a small pot for each party and they put in a
coloured bean to make their vote.
Here is Austin making his vote. He is the first child to vote.
Each child came into the room quietly and said their name
and then they voted for their favourite party.

When the last person voted, Mrs. M.R. counted
how many beans there were in each pot.
The  Dog Party was the WINNER!
There were 8 beans in their voting pot....

Then Room 15 and 16 discussed the results and we
displayed our data on a sheet.
We used Tally marks to record our results.
Reflecting is the final part of our Inquiry.
We got into pairs and we discussed why we thought the Dog Party won?
How did they convince us to vote for them?
                                                               THINK/PAIR/SHARE
Here are some of our thoughts we shared with the class.

This was our winning party.... CONGRATULATIONS to the DOG PARTY!
Rooms 16 and 15 learnt a lot through this Election Inquiry...
The children have very inquiring minds.

                                                             A very enjoyable 2 days !
Happy holidays and keep safe :)

Election Inquiry

On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, Room 15 and 16 are working together on an Election Inquiry. This is to help the children understand the election process and why we elect our Government.

Room 7 helped us to start the Inquiry Process by inviting us to District 7. President Renner told us the rules of District 7 and how we needed to behave. This was very different to how we normally have to behave, and we found this quite hard.

Entering District 7
The children had to sit in their own areas and were told exactly what to do by the "Enforers".

These are the rules of District 7. If you didn't follow the rules you were escorted to the Detention Area.

Fitness.

President Renner kept checking if we were following the instructions correctly.

Some people ended up in the Detention Area, sometimes even for no reasons at all.

After visiting District 7, we broke into groups and brainstormed what we already know about Elections and also what we would like to find out about the Elections. We already knew quite a lot of facts.

We then planned our own parties. We need to convince the members of Room 15 and 16 that our ideas are the best.

We split into like minded groups and developed our ideas. We used the ideas from our persuasive writing to write out the reasons and examples that our party came up with.

We then moved on to create our presentation back to the class.

Who would like to join the Teachers Party?

Tomorrow we will finish our presentation and vote on the best idea. We will finish the Inquiry by preparing graphs and comments on who won.

Dying our Indian Ink Plants

On Friday Ms France came in again and we did the next stage of our mural. We had to dye our plants. We were encouraged to add lots of warm or cold colours. We were told to even blend in the colours with other colours.
